Episode 3: The Newbury Sausage & Tree Felling
Episode 3 kicks off in the Campaign office which gives us a glimpse at the operation behind the scenes at a time where smart phones weren’t an option. Paper maps and walkie talkies were an essential tool during these times of activism.
We get our first introduction to the tree felling campaign being carried out by the authorities and the sheer scale of the police and security guard presence, which unsurprisingly led to activists coming into close proximity with the powers that be and bail conditions that came to be known as “the Newbury Sausage”.
We also discover one of the practical uses of polypropylene rope when protecting trees, but also begin to understand the dangers faced by many activists who were brave enough to occupy the woodland in Newbury.
